In 1999 I made a very successful investment in the Bermuda "domain", bermuda.com, which I bought for about $ 200,000 in 2000 and sold for about ten times as much in 2004. In those years country domains were worth their weight in gold, and some have sold for as much as $ 5 million. That of course has changed with the advent of Facebook, Google, Instagram, Twitter and all the other social media platforms. At the time I cut a deal with The Island Press and sold everything lock, stock and barrel - The Tourist Box (a brochure box with mini fliers advertising all sorts of different tourist attraction, shops, restaurants etc.) and all 100 domain names. I am happy to say that today Bermuda.com is still the #1 website for Bermuda and I am proud that I built that site up into the mega force it has become for Bermuda and all the clients that get their custom from it.
